About us
Meet Spice&Ginger
It all starts with a passion.
With something that inspires you so much, you just have to pursue that passion. My passion? Anything to do with cooking. And it has been a part of who I am for a long time.
You will discover on Spice&Ginger recipes of all colors, flavors and scents. Sometimes they are sophisticated and eclectic. You have to take the time to piece the story together. Then again they are wonderfully recognizable, taking you back to an old, fond memory. That power of food, I put into every dish.
A tribute to cultures
But Spice&Ginger is more than a food blog. Here I pay tribute to cultures and people. To flavors and smells, from all over the world but also close to home. Everything I ever smelled, saw and tasted, I write it all down here.
Each dish tells the story of a journey, as if you were there yourself. In this way, I want to pull you away from the routine of everyday life. To let you enjoy all the beauty the world has to offer. And that's quite a lot.
Nice to meet you
Elkje Van Beversluys
From the world of finance, to Spermalie's stoves and then finally as founder of Spice&Ginger. From an early age, the love of cooking and food was in me. It was so prominent that several years ago I decided to stop hesitating and just go for it. After a one-year, intensive chef training program at Spermalie, I converted myself to a chef, and thus Spice&Ginger was born.
And as much as I love food, I equally enjoy traveling and discovering other cultures. Together with my husband Didier, I now travel the world. Looking for food stories, for the connecting power that food has between people. I share those stories with you here.
Didier Pattyn
Driven to share and cherish worldly stories, I studied photography at NARAFI in Brussels. In addition to being a reportage photographer, I also founded studio RAW16. There I bring Elkje's food stories to life with food photography and make studio portraits.
As a photographer, I interpret the world with great patience, attention to detail and beauty. Each image is created thanks to the combination of thoughtful technique, and great empathy. This is the only way to create an intriguing, moving, story. You will discover those stories here and on RAW16.
Curious what food stories I have to share?
